Sept 29 – MCCC Update/Survey, Drive-in Worship this Sunday, Meghan R. Brant Quilt, Anti-Racism Guest Speaker
Church Family,
Thank you all so much for participating in worship this last weekend. I know I was moved by the telling of Joseph’s story with the “I wonder…” format…what a blessing. If you haven’t had a chance to view the service I would encourage you to do so. This week we will have two worship services to attend–one at the farm, the other on YouTube. I hope you continue to find ways to nurture your spiritual life during this time of wilderness.
MCCC Update and Survey Results
Our Gathering Team continues to have periodic meetings and lots of discussion around suggesting policies to the church board about gathering. These are very difficult conversations as people have different opinions and perspectives. There is a TON of thought and energy that go into this and we really appreciate your prayers and support.
The survey results were very helpful in getting the temperature of the congregation. Here is some noteworthy data at the time of this email:
- There were 67 responses from the congregation
- ~90% of the congregation are watching the service every week or occasionally
- ~80% of the congregation believes the building should NOT be open for worship services.
- 10 people said “open with precautions” and one person said, “Open, period.”
- The question on indoor small group gatherings was split 60% comfortable and 40% uncomfortable.
- 75% of the congregation fall in the “very strict, strict, fairly strict” risk tolerance category with 50% being in “fairly strict”
- Vast majority of congregation are in favor of all safety precautions offered if we were to open the building
Given the current info we have available, as your pastor I will continue to advocate for a health and safety first approach to these questions. I am grieved deeply during this time of separation but believe it is best for the health and safety of our congregation and community. We will continue to use the alternatives we have and deepen our walks with Christ as we go through this. Thank you all for your continued prayers, support, and perseverance in faith.
DRIVE-IN Worship this Sunday at 9:30am at Derthick’s Farm
We are blessed to be able to offer another OUTDOOR worship experience at Derthick’s Farm at 9:30am. This time we will be allowing people to sit outside in front of their own car with a chair or to remain in your cars. If you decide to sit outside in a chair, we are requiring masks and 6ft+ physical distancing. I will be sending the bulletin and more details later this week.
MEGHAN R. BRANT “IT’S NOT ABOUT THE QUILT” Quilt Raffle
Every year around this time Nora Brant makes a beautiful quilt in honor and memory of her daughter Meghan and raffles it off to raise money for ovarian cancer research. More details about the raffle and directions on how to buy tickets and/or donate below. Please support this amazing family for this incredible cause.
ANTI-RACISM Class
This week’s anti-racism class will give us a chance to hear from a local activist named Sasha Gough who has had quite the experience raising awareness about racism in her native town of Garrettsville. If you would like to join us, please let me know.
Many blessings to all of you as you go through the week seeking to live and love like Jesus. If you have any questions, concerns, or thoughts about all things church, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Peace in Christ,
Chad
