MCCC Weekly Update – August 23, 2021
Thanks to all who donated August’s food needs for the 4C’s. Our next “4th for the 4C’s“ is September 26th. Remember that any items may be placed in the bin outside at the lower level entrance of the church at any time during the month. The food items needed for September are: Baked Beans, Instant Coffee & Sloppy Joe Sauce. Also, if you are interested in getting involved in this wonderful community group, they are looking for volunteers! Call 330-274-3310 if you can help! Cann, Converse, Converse Memorial Scholarship – Deadline
It is already that time again where those who are going into higher education can receive a scholarship from the Mantua Center Christian Church. It is called the Mary Cann, Perlea Converse, and Lucius Converse Memorial Scholarship. The deadline for turning in this application is TOMORROW, August 30, 2021.
To be eligible for consideration for scholarship, it is only necessary that
1) A person be a member of the Mantua Center Christian Church (member of MCCC for scholarship purposes is defined as: one who has been baptized at MCCC or has officially transferred his or her membership to MCCC) and
2) Be admitted to any accredited college, university or technical or trade school offering post-secondary education or training. Attached to this email, you will find a copy of the scholarship and information sheet. Please contact Ruth Anne Ruehr at [email protected] if you need an application. The Smile Team is overwhelmed by the supply of school supply donations to help out teachers and kids in our community! There are only a few more days left to turn your donations in. Look for the bins at the following locations to drop off your school supplies: Jake’s Restaurant, Jake’s Market; J & J Sales; Advanced Rehab; Crooked River Flowers,
Mama Light’s Eats; Bilbury & Co; Forage & Feather; and R44 Coffee Co. Items needed are:

It’s FAIR Time for Young & Old
The 163rd Portage County Randolph Fair will be held August 24th-29th. General admission is $6/person, Children under 10 FREE. On Friday, 8/27, Senior Citizens (60+) and Veterans are FREE! The fairgrounds are located at 4215 Fairground Rd., Atwater, Oh 44201. For more information or a schedule of events, please see their website at: randolphfair.com. The Geauga County Fair is celebrating its 199th year and is Ohio’s oldest fair! The fair will be held on Labor Day Weekend, running from Thursday, September 2nd – Monday, September 6th. General Admission is $10/person, and children under 6 are FREE each day. On Friday, Seniors (65+) and Veterans are FREE. Monday is “Family Day”, and all-day ride bracelets are $10. The Mantua Potato Festival will be held at Buchert Memorial Park September 10th-12th. After a year hiatus, everyone is thrilled to see its return! It will begin on Friday the 10th (6pm-11pm), Saturday the 11th (10am-11pm), and finish up on Sunday the 12th (12-7pm).
This is a family fun event with live music, rides, games, contests, a parade, food and much more! There is a parking fee of $4/car. However, if you bring your Crestwood Red Devil football admission ticket on Friday, you will receive FREE parking! (Friday only). The 2021 Annual Chicken Dinner fundraiser at Hilltop Christian Church (4572 West Prospect St., Mantua, Oh 44255)
will be held on Saturday, September 11th from 12-5pm. You may dine at the church, or take-out will be provided. Orders must be provided online at the church website : HilltopChristianChurch.org. $12/adult and $5 for kids 5-9yrs.
Mantua’s Christmas Craft Fairs are scheduled!
Mark your calendars for the 36th Annual Christmas Boutique to be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021, in Hughes Hall at St. Joseph’s Church. This event will run from 9:30am – 3:30pm. They will have a variety of hand-crafted items, baked goods, raffles, door prizes and breakfast, lunch, snack and dessert items. For more information visit the website at: https://stjosephmantua.com/christmas-boutique. Tables are still available for crafters – $30 for an 8ft. table (2nd table is $25). Our Ohio Women’s Ministries group (OWM) at MCCC is also looking ahead to Christmas and planning our MCCC Craft Bazaar! It will be held on Saturday, December 4th from 10am – 4pm at the old Mantua Center School (11741 Mantua Center Rd., Mantua, Oh 44255). There will be a variety of crafters, a 50/50 Raffle, food, baked goods, music and free parking. Mark your calendar so you don’t miss this annual event!
