Devotional from Pastor Chad
A couple weeks ago I confessed in this space that I had neglected to water my porch plants. Here’s an update: They are doing ok. I have lost one due to neglect and one to the dog, but otherwise they are hanging in there. That being said, a new issue has emerged.
Over the last few months I’ve really tried to grow some snapdragons from seed in my flower bed. I have planted bunches of them, but have had zero luck getting any of them to grow. In addition to putting them in the flower bed, I also took some soil and threw them in one of the pots on the porch to see if I had any better luck. So far…no snapdragons. Instead, the yellow flower I have attached to this email has sprung up.
It occurred to me that I kind of resented the yellow flower. I wanted snapdragons. I didn’t plant that one. It came out of nowhere and wasn’t what I was hoping for.
It has also occurred to me that I am missing a gift from God right under my nose. Here I am moaning and complaining “NO SNAPDRAGONS!” and meanwhile a beautiful flower is growing healthy and strong!
Life doesn’t always bring us what we might want, expect, or plan for…but undoubtedly God will surprise us with wonderful gifts right under our noses. Let’s look for them along the way.
May you recognize God’s unexpected surprises this week and I am looking forward to worshipping with you on Sunday!
Peace, Chad
