In Times of Tragedy
There are no words to describe the pain and anguish felt as we witnessed the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas yesterday. The crushing grief felt by those families–parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, friends–who lost their children and loved ones. A whole community rocked by the violence and now will be overwhelmed with the aftermath of grief, funerals, and unwanted media attention. The hurt is unfathomable. Pray for the peace that passes all understanding. Demand justice so that we might save children in the future. Hug your family members today. May our grief turn into healing actions of love and grace.
Below are some resources offered for times of trauma and grief. The website is from the Christian Church (DOC) and the attached doc from the ELCA. Talk to your kids/grandkids and remember there is always someone there to listen to you as you are processing. My listening ears are here and please know I will be praying for all of you as well.
Let us pray:
Loving God, there is so much pain and struggle and violence in this world. Once again, we have seen that senseless violence has taken multiple lives – both children and adults. With heavy hearts, we your children come to you asking for your gentle Spirit to attend to the needs of so many. Comfort those families whose lives have been devastated and disrupted by death. Bring healing to those who have been injured. Help those who are dealing with images they can never unsee. We thank you, Lord, for the brave public servants who rushed toward the danger, brought the violence to an end, and cared for the injured. As we struggle with our questions and confusion, give us grace and wisdom, open eyes and make us ready for action. Help us respond with care and strength. We commit all who are suffering to your care, confident of your promises, assured of your presence, and surrounded by your love. Come near to us, God of Love, in your power, in your grace, and in your mercy. Amen.
Peace in Christ,
Chad
