MCCC Weekly Events & Updates – August 13, 2023
Our 8th Challenge of the Week is to “Share your Faith” with someone. Maybe even invite someone new to church! Share some of your experiences in a Disciples of Christ church! What brings you back? We will be back in the swing of things as Fall is fast approaching and school will be back in session. That means Story Time will return, as well as our Wednesday Daytime Fellowship, and our Life Study! Our Sunday classes will all return and we will have 3 choices to pick from! And, most importantly, Chad will be back on September 3rd, and everything will fall back into a normal rhythm! (By the way, he returns in just 23 days!! Not that I’m counting! ) So, talk about your faith and the reasons you stay at MCCC to someone this week! It would be great to see some new faces in the sanctuary when we will have even more to offer!
Reminders:
1) The Elder’s Meeting scheduled for this Sunday (Aug. 13th) has been CANCELLED. We hope to see you again on September 10th!
2) The annual Canoe/Kayak event at 1pm at Camp Hi is scheduled for this Sunday, Aug. 13th. If weather is a problem, we will see you on the following Sunday, Aug. 20th. It should be a great time for all!
3) The DEADLINE for turning in your Scholarship Applications is NEXT SUNDAY, August 20, 2023. Extra applications are on the bulletin board in the front entrance of the church.
On a side note . . . .
I spent this morning meeting with the Worship Team and what a great meeting it was! Nancy and Katie were still radiating from their recent trip to the Regional Conference last week, and we got to hear about some of their meetings, workshops, and what they learned that they are anxious to share with the congregation! What an exciting event that was for them, and how lucky we were to have them represent and vote on behalf of our church! I can’t wait to hear more from them in the future.
Following the meeting we began the tedious process of cleaning out “unused” Worship Team items.
Did you know that the Trustees have been working behind the scenes for MONTHS, cleaning, sorting, making signs, painting the various rooms and repurposing former “junk rooms” to prepare them to become future classrooms?
And. . . that’s in addition to all their regular duties for keeping up the building! It’s a LOT of work. Today, Rick Painley led the charge with those who could stay after the meeting, to help clear out many of OUR items. Carol Magyarics, Nancy Humes, and I helped Rick – although Rick got stuck with handling all the tall projects! I think we put a pretty good dent in getting rid of some of our “junk”, and it will help the Trustees continue their work with fewer obstacles to move around! Extra helping hands, make easier work! Let us remember that if we ALL work together as a group, items get checked off the list faster than if we work alone!
With that last statement being said, that brings me to another point! (Bet you knew the shoe would drop soon! LOL)
We have MANY books in the back “future classroom” behind the chancel that need to be removed from the church. If anyone is able to take some books to one of the places listed below, that would help the Trustees tremendously! You could drop them off at the World Books drop-off bin in Aurora (near Heinens’ parking lot), or take them to a library that accepts them (call ahead first), or stop by a Thrift Store or 2nd Hand Store that might accept them. Or, if you know of any other places that we can donate used books, please respond to this email and let me know, or let one of our Trustees know so they can pass the word! ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE WILL BE APPRECIATED by ALL! Again, when we all work together, it makes lighter work for everyone!
Wishing you an abundance of blessings this week as you share your faith with others!
