A Message from Pastor Chad – A World in Prayer
Appreciation
I hope you have had a wonderful week filled with God’s goodness. No doubt there were things that challenged and blessed you, things that made you think, things that made you roll your eyes…all part of life and hopefully God is teaching you something through each experience. As I come back from Sabbatical, I’m mindful of the many folks in the congregation who are in need of prayer and support at this time. I’m in awe of the Care Team, Smile Team, the Elders, and all the other folks who are reaching out to care for one another in times of struggle and crisis. It takes a whole congregation to care for one another and we are blessed with many who hear God’s call to reach out with compassion. I’m thankful for each and every one of you.
World in Prayer Resource
I am also mindful that sometimes as we “act locally” (caring for one another in our own community) we can sometimes lose sight of the needs around the world. Around the world today there are so many who are fleeing natural and political disasters, who are hungry, who are surrounded by violence. Let’s remember them in our prayers too! A resource I frequent to keep this global perspective is called “World in Prayer” at https://worldinprayer.org/. I’ve included today’s prayer below* and it is a stark reminder of the tragic situations happening around our world and in our own nation. I found it deeply troubling and challenging to read (and pray)…AND I know it is important that I keep this perspective in front of me as I get bogged down in my own everyday worries and issues. (*Please be aware that the prayer speaks about specific violent acts and may be troubling for some folks who have experienced violence to read).
Worship Sunday
This Sunday we will continue our Lessons from Sabbatical series and will reflect on one of my favorite passages of scripture (Psalm 62:1-8). I will share with you a story from my ministry and about 2 trees that were particularly thought-provoking during our trip to the national parks this summer. Looking forward to being with you in worship!
Peace in Christ,
Chad
