Message from Pastor Chad – Exciting Updates!
This week I was excited for two events in the life of our church–both of which were on Wednesday! The first was our very first afternoon fellowship hour. I was grateful to have about an hour and a half with a few amazing people to catch up with a bit, exchange some stories, and then read some scripture together. We could have stayed the whole afternoon! It was so nice to read scripture together and share our thoughts on it. Our next one will be October 5th at 1:30p…I hope you will join us!
The second event was our weekly Life Study. Jon and Linda have introduced us to Bishop Flunder who we’ve heard two powerful sermons from. This week’s passage was from Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” She inspired all of us by saying that “us” can be against us. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy and especially when it comes to doing justice in the world. We can be apathetic, uncaring, selfish, or celebrate too long…meanwhile there is still injustice in the world and people who will even plan for injustice. We were all challenged in many different ways on Wednesday night!
I know that bible study and topical studies are not for everyone and they don’t always fit in our schedule, I just want you to know that you are always welcome to join us when you can. It is a great way to exercise your faith, learn something new, AND to get to know people in the church. If you have any questions or are thinking about joining us let me know…all are welcome!
Regional Assembly
This weekend is the Regional Assembly of the Christian Church in Ohio. This weekend Disciples from all over the state will gather at Camp Christian for worship, fellowship, and the business items of the church. One SPECIAL piece of business that I want to celebrate with you is that our own Katie Baird has accepted a call to join the Regional Church Council as a lay representative! Congratulations Katie on your nomination and may God bless your work on behalf of the Mantua Center Christian Church and the Christian Church in Ohio!
This Sunday
This weekend my family and I will be in Toledo for a national band competition. This is our first time traveling with the Scarlet Guard and we’re excited for the experience. Keep us in your prayers as we travel. A big “thank you” to Rev. Nancy Humes who will be leading worship and preaching. She will share with you a wonderful passage of scripture and give all much to think about.
Find a way to reach out to someone in need this weekend — a listening ear, a random act of kindness, a smile — and know God is working in and through you.
Peace in Christ,
Chad
