Chi-Rho 2024 Winter/Spring Schedule
Good Thursday All,
I hope that y’all are staying warm and able to enjoy some part of the snow day(s) this week.
I’m writing to share an updated schedule for the Chi-Rho group in the Winter and Spring. We have an exciting list of events coming up with local artists, rock-climbing, and the CMA. As always, friends are welcome to attend these programs. This is a program sponsored by the Disciples congregations in the area and it is for the young adults of our communities – those who are part of the Disciples congregation, other congregations in the Christian tradition and other traditions, and no formal religious affiliation. So if your (grand)child(ren) have a friend or more that they’d like to invite, please encourage them to do so.
Upcoming Schedule:
Sunday, February 4th:
- 1:30-3:30pm at the Hiram Christian Church
- Meeting with Mushroom Ball, Questions, and perhaps Cauliflower Ball?
Sunday, February 18th:
- 2-4pm at the Hiram Christian Church
- Creating Comics with Juan Fernandez (Hiram Resident)
- Mr. Fernandez works with students at the CMA to help craft their stories into visuals they can see and keep.
- Concepts will relate to agency, authorship, and creativity.
Sunday, March 3rd:
- 3:30-5:30pm at Shaker Rocks<https://shakerrocksclimbing.com>
- We can meet there. Interested parties can connect with me to then coordinate carpooling if interested.
- RSVP for you and yours would be helpful to ensure enough belayers for our group.
- Costs will be covered for the young adults. Adults who would like to climb can pay at the desk to do so.
Sunday, March 17th:
- 3-5pm at the Cleveland Museum of Art
- Scavenger Hunt for Religious Art
- This will be within the season of Lent and as the CMA has a good collection of Christian and religious art, it could be fun to bring the young adults into conversation with the artists, tradition, and each other.
- We can meet there. Interested parties can connect with me to then coordinate carpooling if interested.
As Easter is Sunday, March 31, we won’t meet that date. Hold the dates for Sundays April 14 and 28th.
I have begun a conversation with the outreach coordinator of the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent and we are in discussion to arrange a visit there to meet with members of the Mosque and learn more about their space and the Muslim tradition.
Please let me know if you have questions, interests, ideas, and also if and as you are interested in participating/volunteering/leading a particular event.
Thank you for your support and the participation of your young adults. This is an exceptional community as is evident at each gathering.
Peace,
Chris
p.s. Camp Christian’s Summer Schedulehttps://www.ccinoh.com/camp-christian/summer-programs.aspx is now available. This is a ministry of the Christian Church in Ohio and one that offers some good, expansive programming for young adults and families. If your young adult would like to attend, please review the schedule. If your young adult would like to attend with others from this Chi-Rho group, then please be in conversation with me so that families can discuss and perhaps choose the same week(s) for the young adults. Unlike in the past when each congregation had a single specific week designated for their youth, there is now more choice in the matter. Finally, there is a youth fund at Hiram to pay for half of the registration fee for a week.
