A Message from Pastor Chad – Renewal, Mardi Gras, and Lent

As we reflect on this week, we’ve experienced a shift from the snow-covered landscapes and gray clouds to the gentle rain and signs of warmth. It’s a reminder that the seasons are changing, and spring might be just around the corner! The rain brings renewal and refreshment, softening the earth and preparing it for new growth. In nature, we can see reflections of our own spiritual journey—seasons of renewal and transformation, just as God continually works within us to prepare our hearts, minds, and souls for something new. It reminds me of Isaiah 55:10-11 which says: “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Just as the rain nourishes the earth and brings forth new life, God’s word is a constant source of renewal and growth in our lives. Even when we face seasons of dryness or grayness, God’s promises remain steadfast, always working in us, transforming us, and preparing us for the new life that is to come. Let’s open our hearts to God’s ongoing work of renewal, trusting that the rain, both literal and spiritual, will bring forth fruit in due season.
Lent Season is Near!
I also want to invite you to join us for our Lenten Series this year, “This is My Story, This is My Song” which begins with Ash Wednesday on March 5th. Throughout Lent, we will explore the stories that shape our faith and the songs of praise that flow from our hearts. This is a time for reflection, deepening our relationship with God, and discovering how our personal stories of faith intertwine with God’s great narrative. You will find the full Lenten schedule and theme attached to this email!
We will begin with Ash Wednesday, a solemn and reflective service to mark the beginning of the season. We are excited to join with our sister churches, Hiram and Hilltop, for a joint Ash Wednesday service at 6:30pm at MCCC. This will be a meaningful time of worship, receiving the imposition of ashes, and setting our hearts on the journey of Lent.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday for our Mardi Gras Sunday! We will celebrate God’s gifts of abundance and surprise. May this time of reflection and renewal bring us closer to God and to one another.
Peace in Christ,
Pastor Chad
