Message from Pastor Chad – Father’s Day

As we approach this weekend, I invite you into a moment of reflection to pause and consider the meaning of fatherhood and how God shows up in that image for you.
Father’s Day can stir a variety of emotions. For some, it’s a day of deep gratitude. For others, it may be marked by grief, longing, or complexity. And yet, the many scriptural images of parenthood remind us that the heart of God is bigger than any one experience or image:
“As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.” – Psalm 103:13
“Like a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.” – Isaiah 66:13
The Bible gives us beautiful, expansive metaphors for God’s love–some of them are tender, some strong, all grounded in the truth that we are deeply and fiercely loved. Good fathers, whether biological, adoptive, step, chosen, or spiritual, reflect that same compassion. And so do mentors, teachers, grandfathers, and neighbors who show up in our lives with courage, gentleness, and care.
In a world where “toxic masculinity” is all over the place, we’re invited by Christ to a more powerful vision: one where strength is expressed through service, where vulnerability is honored, and where love is the most important thing. Our scripture Sunday will remind us, too, of how much our words impact the world around us.
This Sunday, we will give thanks for our fathers and explore a wonderful passage in the book of James!
Building Committee
I just wanted to give thanks for the Third Century Committee that has been meeting to discuss possibilities for our building and ministry going forward. The team has been meeting, getting some draft architectural plans and even visiting some other churches and communities to see how they do things. As many of you know, we had BIG plans before covid hit and that has certainly been reevaluated given where we are as a church and also the wonderful work that has already been done. All the plans will be put together in a presentation at some point in the near future and everyone in the church will have an opportunity to give feedback, share ideas, and help us make decisions together as a congregation. Let’s embrace the process and stay in prayer!
Camp Christian
Again I want to give thanks for the ministry of Camp Christian in our region. Grandparents camp was last weekend, but there are many camps to come like Otter Camp, Chi-Rho Camp, CYF, and Advance Conference—places where faith deepens, friendships are formed, and God’s Spirit moves in the beautiful surroundings.
Please join me in praying for all our campers, counselors, and staff this summer. May it be a season of safety, fun, spiritual renewal, and joy. May those who come to camp know they are loved exactly as they are and find courage to grow into who God is calling them to be.
Looking forward to being with you in worship on Sunday!
Peace,
Pastor Chad
