This is the Day that the Lord has Made!  Let us Rejoice!

Gathering Music - Only Trust Him (Edward Broughton) music by Jan Green

Welcome to the Mantua Center Christian Church

  • We are a community seeking to have open minds, open hearts, and open arms, building community in a fragmented world.
  • We want to welcome everyone who is in the house today and everyone online.  We are grateful for all the many ways you can join us for worship on this Lord’s Day.
  • REMINDER: We are “masks optional,” restrooms and nursery are open as needed.
  • I have made an invitation to the congregation about Baptism that I want to draw your attention to.  If there is interest, please reach out to me.
  • Our worship service today is a special occasion in the life of our church.  We have been blessed with Pastor Sarah Smith as our Student Pastor over the last 2 years and today is her last Sunday.  We will take time today to celebrate her ministry and ours together.
  • As we do so, we will be contemplating some powerful scripture passages on the Wisdom and hearing what God has to say to us through them.

Let’s prepare our hearts and minds for worship with our Opening Scripture Reading

Opening Scripture read by Rev. Chad Delaney

Proverbs 3:13-20

13 Happy are you who find Wisdom,

     when you develop discernment.

14 For she is more profitable than silver,

and brings yields greater even than gold.

15 She is more precious than rubies;

     nothing you can conceivably desire

     can equal Her value.

16 She holds long life in one hand,

riches and honor in the other.

17 Her paths are pleasant ones,

and all her roads lead to peace.

18 She is a tree of life for those that embrace Her,

and all who hold fast to Her find happiness.

19 For it was through Her that God laid the Earth’s foundation,

through Her that the heavens were set into place.

20 By God’s knowledge the depths were deepened,

      and clouds dropped down dew.

*Response - Weave

Weave, weave, weave us together,
Weave us together, in unity and love.
Weave, weave, weave us together,
weave us together, together in love.

*Call to Worship

ONE: Listen! Wisdom is calling!
ALL: Before all began, God , Word, and Wisdom
Creating, calling, from the foundations of the deep
ONE: Listen! Wisdom is calling!
ALL: From the mountain tops, earth, fields and sea
Creating, calling from the foundations of the deep
ONE: Listen! Wisdom is calling!
ALL: To those who suffer God’s love is given!
Endurance blossoms from the foundations of the deep
ONE: Listen! Wisdom is calling!
ALL: Poured into our hearts that we may become Christ’s hand
and heart, love as the foundation of our lives

*Opening Hymn - Have Thine Own Way, Lord - #588 Chalice Hymnal

Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after thy will,
while I am waiting, yielded and still.

Offering of Praise - Rev. Chad Delaney

Today, we are celebrating ministry and the many gifts that Pastor Sarah has brought to us at Mantua Center.  We have been blessed and so we are grateful.  We remember too, that a community is strongest when we work together.  We’ve seen over and over again especially during the pandemic that one person doesn’t make a church, but it is our gifts together as the Body of Christ that allows the Light of Christ shine in our world.  Today, may each of us listen to the still small voice of God in our hearts and spirits beckoning us somehow, someway to service, to ministry, and to love.

Let us Pray:  Mothering God, bless all the gifts given in this community today for the betterment of your world, as we each seek to be a part of building your Kin-dom.  Inspire in us wisdom, courage, and faith to follow the call you have placed on our lives and as a church together. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Communion Hymn - Break Thou the Bread of Life - #321 Chalice Hymnal

Break thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me,
as thou didst break the loaves beside the sea;
beyond the sacred page I seek thee, Lord,
my spirit pants for thee, O living Word.

Scripture Reading: Wisdom of Solomon 7:21-30

Whether it was hidden or apparent,

I learned it all,

for Wisdom was my teacher,

and it was She who designed all these things.

Inside Wisdom, there is a spirit of intelligence and holiness

that is unique and unmistakable:

    subtle, dynamic, perceptive, pristine, unclouded,

    unconquerable, compassionate, shrewd, compelling,

generous and loving towards mortals, faithful,

faultless, serene, directing all, knowing all,

and pervading ever intelligent, pure and most subtle spirit.

For Wisdom moves more swiftly than motion itself,

She is so pure and pervades and permeates all living things.

She is the breath of power of God,

a pure light of the glory of the Most High,

    and nothing that is base

can come into her presence in secret.

She is the light that shines forth from everlasting light,

the flawless mirror of the dynamism of God

and the perfect image of the Holy One's goodness.

Though alone of Her kind, She can do all things;

though unchanging, She renews all things;

generation after generation She enters into holy souls

and makes them friends of God and prophets,

    for God loves the one

who finds a home in Wisdom.

She is more beautiful than the sun

and more magnificent than all the stars in the sky.

When compared with daylight,

    She excels in every way,

For the day gives way to night,

but Wisdom never gives way to evil.

Wisdom of Solomon 7:21-30

Sermon - A Home in Wisdom - Pastor Sarah Smith

Closing Hymn - More Love to Thee - #527 Chalice Hymnal

More love to thee, O Christ, more love to thee!
Hear thou the prayer I make on bended knee;
this is my earnest plea,
more love, O Christ, to thee,
more love to thee, more love to thee.

Farewell Blessing for Pastor Sarah Smith

*Benediction Sarah Smith
