CYF 2023 Charleston WV Mission Trip – Day 2
DAY 2 – The work begins! After a fortifying breakfast of french toast casserole with all the fixin’s, we headed out.
Team Dave & Sally with Olivia, Faith, Emily, Aspen & Andrea went to work at Ms. Sheet’s house. We tore down old stairs, dug 5 30″ holes (perfect circles per Dave), and put deck posts in the holes and began building the frame. The program director was very impressed with the skills of all-girl workgroup.
Team Chad & Larisa with Sophia, Avery, Charli & Leighton went to work at Mr. Lester’s house. Many stories were heard as we tore up old carpeting and painted and painted and painted. And a duck came to visit!
Team Chris & Carol with Josh, Kevin, Alyssa & Lizzie went to work at Ms. Thomas’ house. We painted the bathroom shower area and built a ramp for easy access into the house. While waiting for tools to arrive, Ms. Thomas invited the entire team in to sit with her for about 45 minutes and shared many stories about her faith. We were able to complete this job and look forward to a new assignment tomorrow.
An amazing chicken dinner with fruit and pasta salads once again prepared by our Chef Pam! OH-SO-GOOD! After dinner activities included a walk down to the river and to the Dollar Store and then some basketball & volleyball in the church gym.
Evening devotions closed out the day with discussion about the Yin and Yang – and how we might be the light in the dark.
