June 16 – MCCC Update, Poor People’s Campaign, Anti-Racism Study Begins, Zoom Opps
MCCC Church Family,
I am so grateful for our MCCC Gathering Team and all the hard work they’ve put in so far to think through how we might safely reconvene in the short and long term. Both subcommittees have met and we will make our presentation to the board on June 28th. We are being intentional and thoughtful on what criteria/conditions and core values we want to meet before a re-entry into our in-person common life together. I look forward to sharing those conclusions with you soon.
I will say that the Life 101 Sunday School class has met in person (physical distancing, masks, etc). Our other Sunday School classes are thinking of meeting as well. Remember… if you are feeling sick at all, please stay home. If you do come together, please meet outside, observe distancing and wear masks. Despite much of the world opening up, the virus is still here and is dangerous. Use good hygiene, wash hands, and use hand-sanitizer. Keep each other safe! There are still many opportunities for getting together electronically and folks can do that too. Soon we’ll come out with our official guidelines for MCCC events.
MCCC Worship in July and August
Just a reminder that starting in July we will be sharing worship with our Hiram Christian Church neighbors. If you are wondering, Hilltop CC has decided to start meeting in-person so they will not be joining us in the joint venture. Worship in July-August will be a combo of pre-recorded video and Zoom parts. We’ll still put out a video every week for folks to worship with on YouTube. We hope this combo idea gives us a chance to connect with each other in new ways through the pandemic.
Poor Peoples’ Campaign Opportunity
I recently sent out an invitation from the Christian Church in Ohio to attend a virtual March on Washington put on by the Poor People’s Campaign. One of the leaders of the movement is one of our Disciples’ pastors, Rev. Dr. William Barber. To attend a rally online would be a great way to check out what the message is and perhaps learn how you might engage in this movement for change. See their values here: https://www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/about/our-principles/

Anti-Racism Book Study
Our anti-racism study will begin this Wednesday and be ongoing through the summer. We’ll meet over Zoom from 6:30-7:30pm and start with a couple weeks of introduction. We will then start reflecting on Ibram X Kendi’s book “How to be an Anti-Racist”. If you are joining the study please get the book asap! You can get it on Kindle and most online booksellers. We’ll be sure to give folks time to acquire the book before diving in. In the meantime, we’ll have introductory material starting tomorrow night.
Zoom Opportunities
At MCCC we have Wednesday Prayer, Anti-Racism Study, and MCCC Kid’s Call (see sign-in info below)as opportunities to gather together. If you would like to gather separately for prayer or conversation (individually or small group), please be in touch with me.
– Wednesday Prayer – Afternoon at 2:00pm. We get together for a time of sharing and prayer. If you have prayer requests please send them to me so we can pray for them.
– Wednesday Anti-Racism Study – Evening 6:30-7:30pm – MCCC Kid’s Call on Thurs at 7:00pm. A Scavenger Hunt and a Story! Feel free to invite friends and family to join us.
As always, my ZOOM door is always open. Please let me know if you would like to meet for conversation, listening, or coaching. I’m glad to walk alongside you and listen during this time.
Grace and Peace be with you!
