June 9th – MCCC Update, MCCC Summer Worship, Resources, and Zoom
MCCC Church Family,
MCCC Update
I’m thankful for the Hiram Christian Church’s hosting of the demonstration this weekend. We had a chance to acknowledge the lives lost, to confess our complicity in racist systems, and then to pledge ourselves to be more anti-racist in our words/actions/beliefs as individuals and as a community. There is a shift happening in many peoples’ consciousness and it is good for us to walk alongside each other as we learn, grow, and transform. This is hard work, but important.
Our MCCC Gathering Team met and had a successful first meeting in being thoughtful about next steps for MCCC. We have 2 sub-teams: One team to discuss short-term, small group possibilities and another to talk about long-term building re-entry plans. We are using the best resources we have to define conditions/criteria for safely gathering and protecting the most vulnerable among us. We will keep you updated as ideas and possibilities come. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.
MCCC Worship in July and August
I’m excited to inform you that our Worship Team met with Hiram Christian Church’s worship team and decided to do some worship together this summer during the Sundays of July and August. There is still more planning, but we will be sharing some resources, special music, communion meditations, preaching, and praying. There will be a combo of pre-recorded video and Zoom parts. That being said, we will still be putting out a video every week for folks to worship with on YouTube. We hope this combo idea give us a chance to connect with each other in new ways through the pandemic.
Anti-Racism Book Study and Resources (just a start)
I am currently working with a few interested folks who are excited about having a book study this summer around the issue of anti-racism. If you are interested in joining us for this study (could be in-person and/or virtual) please be in touch with me. If you are interested in learning more on your own, here are just a few resources that have been recommended to me or that I’ve read myself.
- The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander
- Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi
- How to be an Anti-Racist by Ibram X. Kendi
- Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
- White Fragility by Robin Diangelo
- Why are all the Black Kids Sitting together in the Cafeteria? by Beverly Tatum
Zoom Opportunities
At MCCC we have Wednesday Prayer and MCCC Kid’s Call (see sign-in info below) as opportunities to gather together. If you would like to gather separately for prayer or conversation (individually or small group), please be in touch with me.
- Wednesday Prayer – Afternoon at 2:00pm. We get together for a time of sharing and prayer. One of the ways we can support each other through this time. If you have prayer requests please send them to me so we can pray for them.
- MCCC Kid’s Call on Thurs at 7:00pm. A Scavenger Hunt and a Story! Feel free to invite friends and family to join us.
As always, my ZOOM door is always open. Please let me know if you would like to meet for conversation, listening, or coaching. I’m glad to walk alongside you and listen during this time.
Grace and Peace be with you!
