MCCC Bicentennial Update – June 10, 2026

As we write this email update, there are 246 days until the 200th anniversary of our founding – it’s fast approaching!
Our Bicentennial Committee wanted to share some updates on our plans for 2027.
- Please save two dates on your calendar for next year.
- We are planning a celebration on Sunday, January 24, 2027 (the Sunday closest to our actually founding on January 27, 1827) – we will have a potluck and program that Sunday. (Add it to your calendar)
- The other date is Sunday, June 6, 2027. We will have a larger celebration (without any threat of snow!) that Sunday with friends, former ministers, the community and some VIP’s – including Rev. Terri Hord-Owens (General Minister & President of The Christian Church / Disciples of Christ) and Rev. Allen Harris (Ohio Regional Pastor & President). (Add it to your calendar)
- We will soon have “MCCC 200” logo merchandise to order – T-shirts, hoodies, ball caps, coffee mugs, tote bags, etc. Stay tuned for that announcement. (Sale of those items will also help raise funds for our Bicentennial activities.)
- We are planning three Field Trips for 2027 to visit destinations with historical significance for our congregation:
- Lawnfield in Mentor – James A. Garfield National Historic Site
- Lake View Cemetery – James A. Garfield Memorial
- Bethany College / WV – founded by Alexander Campbell and home to the Disciples Historical Society
- 200 Acts of Kindness – we are still working on the details, but the plan is for our members and friends to do 200 Acts of Kindness each month in 2027 – we’ll track and document each act. (Make dessert for Loaves & Fishes – that’s one. Bring in items for 4-C’s – that’s one. Read a book to the kids at Story Time – that’s one. You get the idea.)
- We will also be updating our church history, with a focus on documenting the last 25 years, since our 175th celebration.
We welcome any other ideas or suggestions for activities to celebrate our 200 years, please let us know. (Of course, if you suggest it, you may be put in charge of making it happen!)
Steve Hurd
