From Pastor Chad – Happy 4th, Raining God’s Word, and Vacation Time

It’s honestly been kind of weird weather this spring and summer so far. It seemed inordinately cool and then all of the sudden super hot. It’s also been raining quite a bit lately and not just sprinkling. I do love the summer rain though–it waters the garden, makes it a little cooler, but, yes, it occasionally changes our outdoor plans. Yet, there’s something deeply renewing about it too. It slows us down and reminds us that not everything is in our control.
It brought to mind this wonderful verse from Isaiah 55:10-11, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth… so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty.” Just like the rain, God’s Word is always doing something in our lives by softening hearts, nourishing souls, making things grow in us and around us. Even when we don’t see the results right away, something sacred is soaking in. So if you’re feeling a little weather weary, I hope future rains give you rest and serve as a reminder that God is at work in quiet, faithful ways bringing life and wholeness to the creation.
Delaney Vacation
Speaking of rest, I want to let you know that I’ll be on vacation from July 7 through August 5. It’s time for some much-needed rest and a chance to spend good time with my family. I’m looking forward to unplugging a bit, recharging, and getting out on the trail a lot.
While I’m away, if any pastoral needs or emergencies arise, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Shepherding Elder, or to one of our Elder Chairs: Nora Brant or Katie Baird. I’m excited for you to hear our special music and guest preaching from congregation members while I’m gone. I’m so grateful for all the gifts and talents of our congregation and know you will be blessed each Sunday. Please keep us in your prayers while we are away and know I’ll be keeping you in mine.
This Sunday, we will look at a passage you may not have read in a while from 2 Kings about Elijah and Elisha. There is much to learn and think about based on their interactions. I hope to see you this Sunday and pray that you have a Happy 4th of July holiday and a wonderful rest of the weekend!
Peace,
Pastor Chad
