Pastor’s Message – Hornets, Picnic & Worship

This week in our front yard I discovered a huge hornets’ nest–it is basketball size and hanging off a branch of one of our trees. Josh saw it when he pulled out of the driveway to go back to college…but I honestly don’t know how long it’s been there. What I do know is that until it’s taken down, I’ve felt super uneasy even thinking about mowing the lawn or working our front. That buzzing nest has put a blockade up on many things I want to do!
Sometimes life can be like that too, but in more intense ways. Something unexpected shows up like an illness, a conflict, a disappointment, or even just the weight of too much at once, and suddenly whole parts of our lives feel like they have to be put on pause. We want to keep moving forward, but instead we find ourselves standing still, a little uncertain, and maybe even a little fearful of getting “stung!”
Scripture reminds us that these moments are not wasted time. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12:12: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.” Patience is not easy when life is on pause. But we can use the pause to deepen our trust, slow us down, and remind us that we’re not alone. The hornet’s nest will eventually be gone, but I trust I’ll learn something in the meantime (like finding it sooner!). Perhaps you are carrying your own “hornet’s nest” right now…if so, may you find grace and patience in the pause, and the reminder that God’s presence will always be with you!
Church Picnic Reminder!
Please remember to RSVP to Sandi Kossick for Kweethai and Steve’s church picnic on Sunday, August 31 at 4-7pm. Bring a dish to share, your own chair, and tableware. It will be a wonderful time of food, fellowship, and fun together! Please come and be a part of it!
This Sunday in Worship
We look forward to gathering together this Sunday as we begin a new series on The Lord’s Prayer. We’ll be reflecting on the words Jesus taught us to pray and how they shape our lives of faith today. Hope to see you there!
Peace, Pastor Chad
