A Message from Pastor Chad – Walking in Faith Together

Over the past several days, I have been holding you all in prayer, just as I know many of you have been holding one another and my family in yours. I am deeply aware that the news of my resignation has stirred a range of thoughts and emotions across our church family. I’m so thankful for all the people who have reached out with messages, cards, and calls of love and support and I know I’ll get to connect with more of you as we move forward. Wherever you find yourself today…steady or unsettled, reflective or uncertain, or quietly excited for what’s next…I want you to know that it’s ok and that you are not alone.
I’ve been thinking about the story in Matthew’s Gospel where Jesus invites Peter to step out of the boat and onto the water (Mt 14:22-33). It is such a powerful moment in scripture. Peter does not leave the boat because everything feels clear or safe. He steps out because Jesus calls him, even in the midst of wind, waves, and uncertainty. Peter’s faith is not perfect, but it is enough to step out. And when he starts to sink, Christ is already there, reaching out, steadying him.
That story feels very personal for me right now and it also feels communal. Peter is often understood as a symbol of the church itself–imperfect, hesitant, courageous, learning to trust in real time. This season we are entering together is not about having everything figured out, but about listening for Christ’s voice and trusting that God is present even when the waters feel unfamiliar.
In the weeks ahead, my hope is that we will continue to gather for worship, study, prayer, and fellowship with intention and care. I also want to be fully present with you during this time. If you would like to get together for coffee, lunch, a meal, a walk, or a visit, please reach out. I truly mean that. While time will shape what is possible, I want you to know that connection still matters deeply to me.
I also want to reassure you that our congregation is not standing still or navigating this transition alone. Our leadership team of Board Chairs and Elder Chairs have already started conversations with our Regional Office, who are providing thoughtful guidance for the next steps we need to take as a congregation. We are in very good hands as a church as we begin discerning the process of interim leadership and, eventually, the calling of a new pastor.
We are also being encouraged not to rush. There is holy work in allowing time and space for grief, for gratitude, and for saying goodbye well. These moments matter to all of us and will help shape our present and future more than we often realize. My prayer is that in all of this, we continue to walk together honestly, gently, and faithfully trusting that the same God who has carried this church through many seasons before will continue to lead us forward.
I hope to see you on Sunday morning and look forward to our time of worship and togetherness. Peace,
Chad
